Wanetta MacLennan Young’s journey began in the rural Cape Breton community of Millville, Nova Scotia, where she was raised with a deep appreciation for community values and resilience. Inspired by her upbringing, Wanetta pursued a career in private primary education, driven by her passion for nurturing young minds and fostering a supportive learning environment. As she delved deeper into the field, she recognized a pressing need to support at- risk youth facing unique challenges in their life’s journey. Drawing upon her own experiences and rooted in a commitment to social justice, Wanetta dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of these vulnerable individuals, advocating for their rights, and providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive. Her tireless efforts have transformed countless young people’s lives and left an incredible mark on her community, embodying the spirit of compassion, resilience, and empowerment that defines her character. Following the school’s closure, where she had dedicated years to nurturing young minds, Wanetta embarked on a new chapter in her life, drawing inspiration from her father’s legacy of advocacy for youth. Wanetta’s father, Wayne MacLennan, had been a stalwart advocate for young people, paving the way for Wanetta to follow in his footsteps. Together with his two brothers, Wayne ventured into the business world, forming Timberlake Construction. Since 2018, Wanetta has been a dedicated businesswoman, focused on her leadership as the owner and operator of Vision Metal Roofing Limited. Now she is expanding to supplying homes for the people of Nova Scotia and beyond.
